January 24th

The second to last day of the camp is here. Wow, hasn’t this come around quickly? After the massive day at Whistler followed by the final trampolining session, the camp house woke to a wonderful breakfast of pancakes cooked up by Amelia. She has really honed her skills in the kitchen! just kidding thanks meals.

After filling our stomachs with pancake goodness the usual exit from the house to the vans to the hill commenced.

It was a picture perfect day and everyone was keen to get to the park and continue there form found yesterday at Whistler/Blackcomb.

The snowboarders started the day with a warm up lap on mystery, then a super fast top to bottom run via roller coaster to get to the lodge chair park. With everyones confidence at an all time high we were straight into it. Badaz  not one to mess around got to it warmingup with front 3’s and 5’s. Chris De Campo also jumped straight into it with a couple of super styley switch back 5’s.. coming up a bit short on one and deciding to head in to rest and for an early lunch. Mitch, nursing a bruised butt, continued with his ever so consistent jibbing and jumping.

After a quick bite and chill in the Rock Chute, we headed backout to make the most of the afternoon sun.

Upon arrival to the mystery chair we were all stoked to see some of our shred heroes- Devun Walsh, Ikka  Backstrom, Chris Dufficy, and Dionnne Dellasale, doing laps of the park and smiling from ear to ear whilst enjoying their local mountain away from the crowds and hypeof Whistler.

With this day slowly coming to an end and the camp almost wrapped up i would like to take this opportunity to thank Chris, Sean, Anthony, Mitchell and Alex S  for reminding me why i love snowboarding with a passion. its been a pleasure boys... may your lives continue tobe full of all things shred, and magical! much love and respect, peace-Pete.

On the skiing side of things we followed the same sort of trend as the snowboarders. Awesome to see the boys killing it on their second to last day on the hill. Jindy with those oh so nice switch 3 high mutes. Amelia with her consistent 360’s. Dylan showing that tall people can have style too with some sick BS 270’soff everything he could. Tim had an awesome day also, this kid has learned so much this camp its silly. However Olly was for sure the highlight of the day, today he took his switch skiing and spinning to a whole new level which is so awesome to see afterhow much effort he has been putting into it all. He nailed some awesome switch 3 high mutes that were on par with Jindy for sure. Well done Olly!

Before we knew it, in true camp style as soon as we got home we were back out the door again to our farewell and awards dinner. The venue for this occasion was Red Robin. Think cheesey North American family burger restaurant kind of thing, with all you can eat fries and all you can drink soft drink.

The table was all smiles as the boys and girl reminisced on the good times had and the friendships that have been made over the last 6 and 1/2 weeks. Its always a sad time for us coaches to see another crew head home but this group of campers certainly makes me realise how much I love skiing. The passion and determination shown by the campers this year is certainly something to be admired and I am sure it will take them far over the years.

As for the awards, they went a little something like this:

Best Attitude: Shaun Belmore

Biggest Charger: Anthony Badagoff

Most Improved Skier: Timothy Fox

Most Improved Snowboarder: Mitchell Hodgson

Congratulations guys!!

Check in tomorrow for Nick FJ’s ‘Camp Director Uncut’ specialhere on the daily reports page where he will chip in with his final words for The Camp 07/08.

Over and Out....
